Golfing News From Dudley Hill Golf Club, a Tri-State Golf Company

July 4, 2017 by tristategolfcourses

The season is already into July.  Seems like every year we skip spring and go straight to summer.  April and May was a continued “No Rain” chant coming from Dudley and all of the Northeast Golf Courses.  Many days of revenue were lost to Mother Nature and now it’s time to make up for the poor New England Weather.

Our Club Championship was held over 2 days of medal play on June 24 and 25.  Overall Men’s Champion is Craig Barrett with rounds of 77 – 72 for a 149 total.  Ladies Champion is Kris Henderson with scores of 79 – 82 for a 161 Total.  First Flight Winner is Frank Krogul at 159, Second Flight is Gene Minarik at 166 and Third Flight winner is Jim Canty at 192.  Net Champs respectfully were Gene Minarik for men and Kim Baker for the Ladies.   Special thanks go out to all participants of this event.  The Award ceremony lasted for many hours after the young Kid from Thompson took home the Championship.

Our leagues have finished their first half of play.  On Monday the team of Jeremy Graves, Dave Halloran Sr, Jim “Creepy” Halloran and Tim Fedish started and finished strongly.  Enough to hold a 20 stroke lead over Bruce Ziemski, Brian lavoie, Roland Gaboury and Geoff Bohanan.  The leaders averaged just over 65 for their 8 rounds of 2 best of 4 handicapped scores.  “Creepy” was quoted as saying “They will never catch us now, and it’s all over except the crying” for the rest of the League for the second half of play.  In Tuesday league Play, Host Jim Siekierski, along with son’s Aaron and Bret and partner John Lesniewski (Yosh), hold a 14 stroke lead (as expected), over Ken and ben Bjorklund, Shawn Heaphy and Paul Manzi.  The all “Polish” team is averaging 63.75 strokes / 9 hole round (no thanks to the elder Ski).  Congrats out to yosh who retired on Tuesday June 27th after 24 ½ years behind bars at the Brooklyn Ct correctional facility as a Guard… not what it sounds like.  He was an employee of the State.  A very good one at that.  This team won’t count their chicken’s before they hatch (like Creepy).  “We know the second half will be a much tighter race” Ken Bjorklund was overheard saying after league play last week.  “We have been playing much better over the last few weeks” he said to someone else.  We’ll wait and see.

For our Thursday Night Ladies League, The team of Kim Hill, Crystal Logan, Cheryl Hackenson and Donna Murphy  averaged 69.75 for the 8 weeks and hold a 13 stroke lead over Andrea Becker, Kelly Horan, Denise Antos and Meleah McKay.  Third spot only one shot out of second is the team of Frances Berger, Diane Sivret, Deb Guskey and Joanne Bruell.

On Wednesday June 28th the Club Hosted a MGA Junior Amateur Qualifier here at Dudley.  28 Players took to the groomed course for play at 8am with 6 of them moving on to the Championship proper to be held at The Orchards in Hadley Mass later this month.  One young man shot the low round of the day with a one under 71.  The MGA holds qualifying sights for Tournaments throughout the State and this was Dudley’s 4th Qualifier.  Last year we hosted the Super Senior Qualifier (for those over 65).  The players and the MGA staff continue to praise the condition of this course each and every time.  Special thanks to Dick Norton, Dave Torrey and Adam Bonaventura who assisted with the MGA staff to marshal play.  Thanks guys.

The Course Superintendent (Brian Dagneau), and his staff have Dudley in excellent shape.  The greens are fast and true.  They even trimmed the heather down on the mounds to #4 which has lowered some scoring for certain individuals.  Brian and staff deserve a lot of credit for Dudley Hill condition.

It’s also very nice to have other Tri State members visit is and play from both raceway and Melody Hills.

Our next men’s event is the annual Invitation scheduled for August 4,5 & 6

Thanks, Jim
